Protocol to Participate as a Donor of Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells to Provide Cells for Laboratory Research Studies
There are several reasons why the Center needs to acquire large numbers of peripheral blood mononuclear cells for research studies. First, hematopoietic stem cells collected from the peripheral blood (PBSC) by leukapheresis have been used successfully for autologous, syngeneic, and allogeneic transplantation at this center. The use of PBSC as the source of cells for transplantation continues to expand both in terms of numbers of patients as well as in numbers of protocols. Laboratory evaluation and development of novel PBSC processing techniques requires full-scale access to these types of cells, in quantities which are too large to be obtained as research samples derived from PBSC collections intended for transplantation. Second, large cell numbers are required for certain experimental models, for example the introduction of purified human stem cells into SCID mice. Third, mononuclear cells are needed as feeder layers for the generation of antigenspecific T-cell populations. Fourth, large cell numbers are needed to optimize ex-vivo expansion and gene therapy protocols. For each of these types of research, along with other future applications, these larger cell quantities can only be obtained from volunteer donors where the entire product can be used in the research effort. This protocol has been designed to allow for the collection of these cells for researchers at this Center, as well as for outside institutions.

Clinical Research Division Specimen Repository (CRDSR)
The objectives of the FHCRC Clinical Research Division Specimen Repository (CRDSR) are to acquire, catalogue, maintain, and distribute serum, blood and marrow specimens obtained from SCCA patients at the time of their arrival conference. The goal is to support basic and clinical research on the etiology, biology, and treatment of human diseases by providing researchers with high-quality stored samples obtained from these patients at a time before any treatment has been provided at The Center. Specimens from the repository are intended to enhance on-going research projects and enable new avenues of inquiry.

FHCRC Cryobiology Repository of Bone Marrow and Peripheral Blood Stem Cells for Research Studies
A Repository of Cryopreserved Bone Marrow and PBSC Specimens for Research Studies. This Repository will primarily contain components from deceased patients. Additional products will include samples where patients have chosen to discontinue storage and have given specific permission to transfer their cells to FHCRC to be used for research purposes.
