The Geballe lab studies the regulation of translation during viral infection.  Our current research focuses on the interactions between the cellular antiviral protein kinase R (PKR) and viral PKR antagonists expressed by human cytomegalovirus, a herpesvirus, and vaccinia virus, a poxvirus.
